Frequently Asked Questions
Which are the best Sahyadri treks for beginners near Mumbai?
Easy, well-marked forts like Lohagad, Rajmachi, Karnala and Sinhagad are the usual first treks near Mumbai and Pune — short climbs, clear trails and good views. See our route guides for Lohagad, Rajmachi and Karnala.
What is the best season to trek in the Western Ghats?
June to February is the sweet spot: the monsoon (June–September) brings green trails and waterfalls but slippery rock, while the post-monsoon winter (October–February) gives clear, cool, stable weather. Summer treks need an early start and plenty of water.
How difficult are Himalayan treks compared to Sahyadri forts?
Himalayan treks are longer and higher, so altitude and multi-day stamina matter more, while Sahyadri forts are shorter but can be steep and exposed. Build fitness on Sahyadri treks first — our Sahyadri vs Himalayan comparison explains the jump.
Can you combine a Jyotirlinga yatra with trekking?
Yes — several Maharashtra Jyotirlingas sit in trekking country, most famously Bhimashankar, which is both a temple and a forest trek. See our Bhimashankar guide.
Which Sahyadri treks are best in the monsoon?
Green plateau and waterfall treks like Harishchandragad, Rajmachi and Andharban are at their best in the monsoon — but check conditions, as rain makes exposed and waterfall routes riskier. Guides: Harishchandragad and Andharban.
